Blog #48 – Perfectionism vs imperfectly Doing

“Ok Google… define perfectionism”

“Perfectionism is often defined as the need to be or appear to be perfect, or even to believe that it’s possible to achieve perfection” (Goodtherapy.org)

Why do we want to be perfect and do perfect? What I’m learning from my cognitive therapy coach is that we develop perfectionist tendencies because we want to protect ourselves from future danger, humiliation and criticism.

This will lead us to think say and do all things perfect to avoid these dangerous things.

This will also lead us to procrastination because if it’s not the perfect situation or the perfect circumstances or the perfect time of day or the perfect whatever then we can’t do it. Question you got to ask yourself is how is this strategy working for you? If you’re like me it leaves me feeling pissed off and unfulfilled. So I much rather be taking action and being okay with just being good rather than perfect.

Imperfectly doing is the motto.
