Blog #40 – Mindless Hitting

How to hit without thinking

“The quack attack is back Mac”

Another solid Philly hit club session in the books.

At today’s session we went over “mindless hitting” . This is a concept of getting out of your own head and trusting your swing. We’re working towards getting in “Hot streaks”at the plate… Also known as a flow state or the zone… where time slows down and you are completely present with the task at hand.

We will train this by having our hitters practice 10 drills of 3 swings each at a 70% effort level. Each round a hitter will swing 30x in a row. This will help build a rhythm and also build a skill of detaching themselves from the outcome of each swing.

If it’s a good swing…great… If it’s a bad swing…great…we’re not attaching or judging each swing or allowing ourselves to get caught up with the result… but what does matter is showing up with the presence of mind at each individual pitch and swinging the bat. We will avoid judging or problem solving in-between pitches or mid pitch rather just let it go and on to the next one.

If you can do this 3, 4,5, swings in a row you start to get into a rhythm or what we like to call a hot streak.

It was a fun session today watching the hitters attempt to get into hot streaks.
