What is the difference?
I wanted to recap 3 main points we discussed in our group in regards to STRENGTH Training for your sport.
#1 – Understand there is a difference between SPORT SPECIFIC & STRENGTH TRAINING.
#2. Strength Training reduces your likelihood of being injured.
#3. Allocate time to do both in your weekly routine. Both Sport specific training and strength training.
Sport Specific training is what you guys will be doing with Coach Jake & Coach Tom. It is training specific to your sport and position. Whereas STRENGTH Training is focused on building well rounded strength in your body so you can perform at your particular sport. This includes performing exercises that take you through movement patterns that best translate to being an athlete. (Squat, Hinge, Press, Pulling, Stabilization, Coordination)
Examples of Sport Specific Training
1. Drills to work on throwing mechanics
2. Throwing with weighted baseballs
3. Slamming, scoop tossing heavy med balls.
4. Throwing with a towel
Examples of Strength Training
1. Dumbbells, Kettlebells, Barbells Training
2. Overhead Press, Flat Press, Incline Press, Chin up, Squat, Deadlift,
