Commitment Tracker. Why is this important?

Step 1 – Clear Start Date & End Date

Well whenever I first meet with a client and listen to their wants and goals. The first thing I say to them is Step 1: “Lets get clear with a start date and an end date”. The importance of a clear start date and end date sheds away any ambiguous or “wishy – washy” excuses and challenges the person to actually make a commitment. This will illuminate to the client how serious they actually are. I like to work in 12 week cycles. Its a good amount of time for most people to build habits that stick and its enough time to get real results.

Step 2 – Focus on 1 Goal at 1 time

After that we will narrow down allllll the wants and goals that the client is wanting to just 1 very important goal. Most people want it all and want it all yesterday so in their desire to want everything they get nowhere or just get a little bit better at 5 things. With this approach of focusing on just ONE THING the client will be able to eliminate decision fatigue and blast through the week in and week out resistance that we all feel when we are trying to stay consistent towards our habits.

Step 3 – What are you willing to give up in return for your goal?

This is often overlooked when clients speak to me about their goal. Its easy to talk about the thing that you want. Now lets talk about what are you willing to give up in return for the thing that you want. For example: if your goal is to resistance train 3x per week for the next 12 weeks. There may come a time throughout your next 12 weeks that you have a busy week and you may ave to train 3 days in a row that given week in order to keep your training habit going. Are you willing to do that? Are you willing to give up a Saturday morning at 8 am to train?

Step 4 – Determine your minimum committed days per week.

No if and or buts about it. Lets look ahead in your calendar and see how many days per week you can commit too 100%. if its not a 100% commitment on 3 days per week then we set the minimum to 2 days per week. Again the goal is to build MOMENTUM in the right direction, not put too much on your plate and you feel overwhelmed. Long term sustainability.
